Nick Taber joined us to represent all of the ensembles he sings with headed to Charlotte. Nick sings with Voices of Gotham, the men’s ensemble out of NYC, as well as the mixed voice chorus from the same chapter, GOTHAM. He’s also joined the young chorus, East Coast Sound based in New Jersey, and added to his plate with quartet, Zenith.

Fleet Street is an a cappella quartet based in St. Louis, Missouri, that formed in the summer of 2016. All were members of The Recruits youth chorus and the 4x International Chorus Champions, the Ambassadors of Harmony. Fleet Street qualified to compete at the 2022 BHS International Contest.

The City Lights Chorus of Michigan was re-chartered in 2018 as a premier male a cappella group focused on musical excellence and high-level entertainment. They went on to become the 2019 Pioneer Champions and qualified as an International Competitors in 2022.

Spectrum A Cappella is from Vanderbilt University. This year, they have advanced to the finals for the A3 competition, where they ultimately placed third in the nation, along with winning an award for Outstanding Vocal Percussion! Congrats to the team!

Competition Countdown: Hum A Cappella

Hum A Cappella is a South Asian fusion a cappella team at The University of Texas at Austin. Hum uses only their voices to create a blend of South Asian and American musical culture. Since their founding in 2001 (making them the first group of their kind in the South), Hum has evolved into a group of diverse vocalists who love to share their love of music through performances, competitions, and studio album recordings. They will be competing in the A3 finals on Apr 16th.

The team won awards for Outstanding Solo in a South Asian Song, Outstanding Solo in a Non-South Asian Song, AND Outstanding Arrangement! Congrats!

Competition Countdown: Dhunki A Cappella

In Hindi, ‘Dhunki’ means ‘spellbound.’ The name also contains the Hindi word ‘Dhun,’ which means ‘tune’ or ‘melody.’ This Hindi name symbolizes this group’s focus on the areas of South Asian music and culture. Their goal is to spread their culture throughout the community by the means of a unique style of music in which Eastern and Western themes collide in intricately arranged mashups. This style will be showcased to the max at A3 finals.

The team came in first place this year and won a special award for outstanding visual performance! Congrats!

Competition Countdown: Dhamakapella

Based out of Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, OH, Dhamakapella is a South Asian fusion a cappella group. They derive their influences from Indian classical, contemporary Bollywood, pop, dubstep, and electronic genres. Within three years of its creation in 2005, Dhamakapella grew into a sixteen-member group, with singers of various and diverse styles. Since they began competing in 2011, they have accrued 20 national titles and 27 individual awards at competitions across the United States, including this year at ICCA. The team will be vying for another title to add to the list: winner of A3 2022!

Basmati Beats is Rice University’s premier South Asian a cappella group! Founded in 2013, the group has since competed in national competitions and performed at venues all around Houston and Texas. They’ll be taking the A3 finals stage on Apr 16.
